Flights at Sicily's Catania airport were suspended again Wednesday as fresh ash emissions from Mount Etna — Europe's highest and most active volcano — forced authorities to extend airspace restrictions that disrupted travel during the busy summer season.
Footage from the island showed the volcano engulfed in smoke on Thursday, while lava flowed from an opening 700 meters (2,295 feet) above sea level into the Mediterranean.
